Bridget Riley, born in London in 1931, saw her career deeply affected by an encounter with the work of post-impressionist master Georges Seurat. At the Musée d'Orsay, this exhibition looks back at Georges Seurat's seminal influence on Bridget Riley's artistic practice. Discovering Bathers at Asnières at the National Gallery in London was a feast for the eyes. In 1959, Bridget Riley made a copy of Bridge at Courbevoie, based on a simple reproduction: “Copying Seurat helped me understand pictorial thinking… I looked at his work, analyzed it in my copy and adapted it for my means.” Seurat's influence has endured in Bridget Riley's work over the decades.
