The present lithograph depicts Jackie Kennedy and a young John F. Kennedy Jr. walking side by side; Jackie is shown in a motherly gesture of gently fixing her son's hair. Peyton created this edition in 2000, one year after John F. Kennedy Jr.'s tragic death in a plane crash at the age of thirty-eight.
A prolific printmaker, Peyton has worked in a range of techniques, including monotype, etching, intaglio, and woodcut, among others. Speaking on the importance of prints in her practice, the artist has remarked: “I would say that, historically, prints have typically been the afterword to a work. But for me it’s a foreword. Often I’ll make a work after something I make in the print studio.”
