Artist
David Zwirner is pleased to announce an exhibition of new and recent work by Elizabeth Peyton (b. 1965) at the gallery’s 533 West 19th Street location in New York. This will be Peyton’s first New York solo show with the gallery, following her solo presentations in London in 2023 and Paris in 2025. Paintings by the artist were also featured in the 2025 group exhibition Circa 1995: New Figuration in New York, at David Zwirner’s 537 West 20th Street space in New York and in the recent group exhibition Copistes, which was held at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, France, and organized in special collaboration with the Musée du Louvre, Paris. In 2023, Peyton became one of the two “Hôtes du Louvre,” holders of a studio in the palace itself, created on the occasion of the museum’s 230th anniversary.
In 2019, the National Portrait Gallery, London, presented Aire and Angels, in which Peyton’s paintings were exhibited alongside historical works of portraiture drawn from the museum’s permanent collection. The following year, the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, presented the solo exhibition Practice. In 2024, Peyton created daystar hakuro, a site-specific exhibition at the historic Ryosokuin Temple in Kyoto, Japan.
