This special edition with an artist-signed bookplate is available in a limited run of 275 copies.

By R. Crumb. Edited and with an introduction by Dan Nadel

This volume brings together twenty-five of R. Crumb’s most ambitious, acclaimed, and profound comics.

One of the most influential and iconic cartoonists of our time, R. Crumb is celebrated for pushing the boundaries of representation, mass consumerism, and polite society. The comics in this volume exemplify Crumb’s creative output over twenty-five years following his early experimentation in the 1960s and 1970s.

The comics collected here depict characters searching for an understanding of the world around and within themselves. Through adaptation, autobiography, biography, and short fiction, Crumb—much like his subjects—demands we pay attention to our darkest desires, compulsions, fears, and obsessions.

also features a new, introductory comic strip by Crumb, reflecting on his practice in the context of this volume.

Editor Dan Nadel’s essay further weaves together Crumb’s life, career, and influences, delving into the creative environment that informed some of the artist’s most outstanding comics.

Meticulously drawn objects against blank backgrounds form liminal spaces devoid of human presence or context

Following the artist’s internationally acclaimed first solo exhibition at Fridericianum in Germany in 2022, this title offers a focused look at Khedoori’s singular visual language, grounded in objecthood and natural forms, and articulated through extraordinary precision. Australian-born artist Toba Khedoori’s (born 1964) oeuvre incorporates both drawing and painting. She arranges large sheets of paper worked with wax to form monumental image carriers on which she produces precise drawings using graphite and oil paint, which captivate with their execution and fine detail.

Giorgio Morandi: Time Suspended, Skira, 2024

On Morandi’s exquisitely serene art as a distillation of the tumultuous 20th century

This volume positions Giorgio Morandi (1890–1964) as a paradigmatic 20th-century figure: a man who lived through two world wars and experienced the full impact of the era’s disillusionments. Against this bleak backdrop, he sought stringent order and formal harmony, while leaving room for uncertainty and surprise. This clothbound volume spotlights the artist’s paintings and works on paper from the 1920s to the 1960s, as well as a wealth of unpublished documents and photographs recently excavated from the Morandi family archives. Marilena Pasquali, an art historian and leading Morandi expert, interprets these materials, connecting them with the arc of his career. Alongside writings by other art historians, Pasquali casts Morandi’s art as an ongoing response to the tumultuous, dispiriting times in which he lived.

Book Cover, Oscar Murillo: Aesthetic Structures

Conversation between Oscar Murillo and Mark Godfrey

Looking back at Oscar’s practice for the last 10 years, specifically, the progression of the themes of blackness/void, games and failure, the book is a non-linear journey, finding moments of convergence between shows and artworks that have informed Murillo’s new series. Throughout the book runs in parallel relevant works and a conversation between Oscar Murillo and Mark Godfrey which delves into the details of Murillo’s process and influences.

Inspired by the 1950s Brazilian neo-concrete movement, the photographic editing of the shows and artworks seeks to spark a poetic feeling in contrast to the rigidness of the design.

Shows highlighted in the book include Venice Biennale (2015), Museo de Arte de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia (2021), South London Gallery (2013), Carlos/Ishikawa (2012) and Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna (2024) in between others.

An investigation of seven emerging artists who use supernatural color and uncanny luminescence to challenge the boundaries of traditional figuration.

Color is flexible and amorphous. It lends itself to infinite perceptions and refuses to be definitive.

Overflow, Afterglow: New Work in Chromatic Figuration

discusses new work by seven emerging artists who use supernatural color and uncanny luminescence to unsettle the figure. In painting, sculpture, and installation they push at and spill over the outermost limits of realism. Their high-key palettes and disorienting glow defamiliarize human and anthropomorphic forms, highlighting the figure’s manipulability and continual metamorphosis. These artists refute any fixed notions of the self and thwart reductive interpretations, generating space for resilient, transgressive, and exuberant bodies that cannot be placed or contained.

In their work the artists take in and take on the oversaturation of our contemporary moment. They invoke surreal slippages between everyday horrors and their unbound imaginations. This multiethnic, multiracial, and multifaceted group of makers leverage palettes that reflect their cross-cultural allegiances and lived experiences—whether nodding to their respective heritages, to pop culture and digital immersion, or spaces of youthful and queer liberation. Modern and contemporary artists have long offered a counterpoint to strongholds within Western art history that have insisted on a muted palette as an indicator of purity, seriousness, and whiteness—since the Renaissance’s focus on linear perspective and recasting of classical sculpture in white. At a time of deep reconsideration of canons and institutions, this presentation reflects on how color has been othered—perceived as emotional, subjective, and secondary to line in importance. The artists in

embrace color to push against such hierarchies. Taken together, their works convey today’s zeitgeist of frenzied too-muchness and all-at-onceness, in-betweenness and expansiveness, ultimately showing interlinked experiences across many spectrums.

Portia Zvavahera, Ndirikukuona (I can see you), 2021

Text by Sinazo Chiya, Tandazani Dhlakama, Tamar Garb, Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, Fiona Bradley, Andrew Nairne

This new publication accompanies a major exhibition, curated by Tamar Garb, which will include reproductions of brand new works created on the occasion of this exhibition alongside a selection of recent and older paintings which reveal the depth and richness of Zvavahera’s practice. The focus will be on the theme of dreams, fantasy and figuration, and large details will highlight Zvavahera’s innovative amalgamation of printmaking and painting techniques that build rich surfaces to create her private cosmology of creatures and contexts.

The book will feature a significant new essay from curator Tamar Garb and will centre around an extensive conversation between Garb, Sinazo Chiya, Tandazani Dhlakama and Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela discussing Zvavahera’s engagement with eros, intimacy and female-centred experience.

The book will open up how Zvavahera’s works emerge from dreams; being figurative without being illustrative, registering a world of feminine experience and fantasy.

Flavin’s “gaseous images” illuminate the landscape of the Kunstmuseum Basel

Legendary minimalist artist Dan Flavin (1933–96) began working with fluorescent light tubes in the early 1960s. Arranged in “situations,” he would then further develop them into series and large-scale installations. His pieces often included dedications, making reference in their titles to concrete events, such as wartime atrocities or police violence, or to other artists. The colors and dimensions of the materials he used were prescribed by industrial production. Flooded in light, viewers themselves become part of the works. The space, along with the objects within it, are set in relation to each other and thus become immersive experiences of art, triggering sensual, almost spiritual experiences. Flavin liberated color from the two-dimensionality of painting. This catalog looks at Flavin’s oeuvre in a less familiar setting: the indoor and outdoor spaces of the Kunstmuseum Basel.

Francis Alÿs: Ricochets

was published on the occasion of Christopher Williams’s exhibition Radio/Rauhfaser/Television at Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society at the University of Chicago. It focuses on Williams’s research into a broadcast of Franz Xaver Kroetz’s 1972 stage play Upper Austria and an accompanying panel discussion—consisting of Franz Xaver Kroetz, Dieter Braun, Ludwig Hannover, Dieter Schnabel, and Hans-Georg Frieser—that was cancelled by West German public television broadcaster ZDF in 1973 due to Kroetz’s communist party affiliations. This book publishes, for the first time, a complete transcript of the panel discussion along with contemporaneous newspaper articles, opinion pieces, and open letters written in the wake of the cancellation, and an introduction by Neubauer Collegium curator Dieter Roelstraete.

Gerhard Richter’s newest facsimile-like artist’s book is focused on a single work comprising twenty-six drawings

“[Richter’s drawings] are of stringent individuality and recognizably by Richter’s hand, not based on their signature style but rather because they make their theme the act of drawing itself, gauging the conditions of drawing.” —Dieter Schwarz

In this new work, Richter combines various elements from a limited set of forms and techniques—meandering lines, broad tonal planes applied with angled strokes of graphite, and passages of smudging, hatching, and erasure—thereby uniting choice and chance in an infinitely generative process. The suite of works on paper from 2023 encapsulates and refines the fundamental principles that have consistently defined Richter’s artistic journey. Reproduced at actual size, the drawings encourage in-depth observation and inspire a compelling reimagining of abstraction.

By Robert Storr. Edited with text by Francesca Pietropaolo

A scholarly meditation on Reinhardt’s work, bringing together his abstract painting, comics and slide lecture series

takes as its subject the work of American artist Ad Reinhardt (1913–67). An American abstract painter, he worked in New York alongside artists including Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning. Renowned art critic and historian Robert Storr curated the award-winning 2013 exhibition of Reinhardt’s work at David Zwirner gallery. This book brings together, for the first time, Storr’s writings on Reinhardt’s abstract painting—for which the artist became hugely influential on the younger generations of Minimal and Conceptual practitioners—his satirical cartoons addressing political and social issues and advocating for abstract art, and his famous slide lecture series. With introductory texts by Storr and art historian Francesca Pietropaolo, this book features an essay previously published in

(2013) and a companion text, also written in 2013, that appears in print for the first time.

Contemplating perception and representation with two titans of photorealism

This publication brings together for the first time the work of New York–based artist Vija Celmins (born 1938) and Colgone-based painter Gerhard Richter (born 1932) in a transatlantic dialogue that reveals surprising connections. Their works have been paired together at the Hamburger Kunsthalle in an exhibition spanning over 60 paintings, drawings, prints and objects. This study offers comparisons between some of the artists’ most notable works, including Celmins’

. In addition to their thematic similarities and the fact that both have worked with photographic models throughout their careers, Celmins and Richter share an interest in the most elementary conditions of representation. This revelatory pairing invokes questions of reality, visibility and the nature of perception itself.

Vividly illustrated documentation of the artist’s participatory dining installation at Glenstone

For more than 30 years, community has been central to the work of artist Rirkrit Tiravanija (born 1961). With a keen focus on collective activities and rituals, Tiravanija frequently incorporates elements such as cooking, conversation and art-making into the experiences offered by his practice. This book commemorates Tiravanija’s 2019–20 titular installation at Glenstone Museum. The participatory exhibition featured the serving of fresh soup, an active T-shirt printing factory and an evolving presentation of graffiti that unfolded across the reconfigured architecture of the museum’s Charles Gwathmey–designed building.

Anchoring this volume are texts from Molly Nesbit, Okwui Enwezor and Gavin Brown, offering perspectives that illuminate the artist’s conceptual grounding. The fully illustrated publication also features reflections from staff involved in the exhibition’s presentation, recipes of the soups served and extensive photography of the graffiti rendered throughout the run of the show.

A dialogue of sensibility and attention: artists from Forrest Bess to Amy Sillman juxtaposed with the delicate paintings of Raoul De Keyser

Over the course of his nearly five-decade career, Belgian artist Raoul De Keyser created paintings that bridge the mysteries of the everyday and the intangible world of abstraction.

takes the artist’s radical painterly practice as the beginning of a conversation with a diverse group of artists—both living and dead—whose works share a sensibility and attentiveness to the fragile intangibility of the world. In their paintings, sculptures, and works on paper, these artists join De Keyser in presenting the world back to us as a kind of abstract visual poetry.

presents works by Richard Aldrich, Forrest Bess, Matt Connors, René Daniëls, Raoul De Keyser, Vincent Fecteau, Maysha Mohamedi, Rebecca Morris, Betty Parsons, Amy Sillman, Ricky Swallow, Patricia Treib, Luc Tuymans, and Lesley Vance.
